Bhopal, June, 2014: Kalanjali, an organisation dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional
Indian classical dance and art forms organized
its annual 16th “ Kalanjali-Kalotsavam” at the BHEL
Cultural Hall, Bhopal on Saturday at 6.30 pm. Promoted by noted classical dance
exponent Guru PSA Manu three decades
back and now run by Master Pradeep Krishnan, Kalanjali has been imparting training
in Indian classical dance and music to children and organizes its annual
festival every year.
Kalanjali is
aimed to provide a platform for the children – the budding artists to showcase
their talent in the traditional dance forms. Shri D. K. Thakur (G.M, BHEL &
President AGA Club, Bhopal) was the chief guest while Shri Prof. Rajaram (Ex-Director,
Bharat Bhavan, Painter, Critic and Art Historian) was the Guest of Honour &
Guru Pt. Shyam Dwivedi (Retd. Sr. Sitarist, AIR) was the special guest
who presided over the function.
Bharatanatyam, is
the traditional dance form of India that has been created and passed on by none
other than Lord Shiva. It is said that Bharata Muni had learnt this dance form
from Lord Shiva and later simplified it for the human beings.
Bharatanatyam begins
with Puspanjali, during which the artists pray to the God and offer flowers.
The first stage of
the dance is Alaripu which means a blossoming flower. The artists
performing Aalaripu are like blossoming flowers which are offered to the God.
Though there are
seven stages in Bharatanatyam, the budding artists and trainees perform
Jatiswaram as the second stage. The dance is extended and performed with a
Raaga and is known as Adavu.
Shabdam is the third
stage in Bharatanatyam dance that basically deals with the expressions. After
the “Shabdam” or word is recited it is enacted “Varnam”. This fourth stage, is
an important stage of Bhartnatyam that has all elements of the dance form
embedded in it. The dancer’s talent is judged by the manner in which he/she is
able to express.
The fifth stage of
the dance form is Padam. It has two parts the Shringar bhaav and Bhakti Ras and
these two parts are being presented in today's programme.
In Shringar Bhaav,
dance based on Krishna Leelas are performed. The various expressions like being
feeling cheated, endless wait for the hero, depression and the feelings of
sudden happiness on seeing him are performed by the artists.
In Bhakti Ras the
artist performs Bhakti towards Lord Shiva. They perform like Natraj the mudra
that is associated with Lord Shiva.
During the
Rangarohan the children will perform Aalaripu, Jatiswaram and Padam.
